Welcome to Rockhound News
A twice-daily, plain-English rundown of the mineral world — notable finds, new mineral species, gem and lapidary news, and the research behind the pretty rocks.
Hi, I'm Ren.
This is my rockhounding and mineral news site — short, honest articles about what's happening in the world of rocks, minerals, and gems, refreshed twice a day. That means notable finds and locality news, newly described mineral species, gem and lapidary developments, mining and show coverage, and the science behind why minerals form the way they do.
Rockhounding coverage tends to be scattered across club newsletters, forums, and paywalled journals. I read across the day's reporting, pull out what's real and interesting, and write it plainly. When the news runs thin, I read the current mineralogy research instead and write up a paper worth knowing about. New articles post morning and evening, older ones stay here, and every article links its sources at the bottom.
No login, no tracking, no hype — just what's new in the mineral world, and why it's worth a look.
