New Mineral Species and Analyses Published in European Journal of Mineralogy

The latest issue reports a rare lawsonite eclogite from Turkey, quantitative aragonite‑group carbonate analysis by ATR–FTIR, and exsolution textures affecting vanadium recovery.

After reviewing the latest issue of the European Journal of Mineralogy, we found three studies describing new mineral species or analyses that had not been previously covered.

The first study describes a rare, well-preserved lawsonite eclogite at Elekdağ, Central Pontides, Türkiye. It indicates P–T conditions (~500 °C, ~2.3 GPa) similar to other lawsonite eclogites, providing insight into modern subduction zones.1

The second paper presents a rapid analytical method using attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy on synthetic mixtures of aragonite-group carbonates. Calibration curves were developed for quantifying strontianite and witherite via absorbance ratios between peaks, reducing variability from measurement conditions.1

The third article investigates Fe–Ti oxide mineral exsolution textures in vanadium ores from the Bushveld Complex. These textures influence crushing strategies and pre-concentration of vanadium and titanium; identifying them can optimize ore processing techniques.1

Together these studies introduce new mineral species descriptions, novel analytical approaches, and practical implications for resource extraction. They will be followed closely as further research emerges.
